DIY Tote Bag

For the last couple of months, tote bags became a very big trend and you could buy them everywhere. These bags differ in prices from as cheap as R50 up to R300 depending on where you're looking.

I thought I would show you guys how easy it is to make your own in only 4 steps.

What You'll Be Needing:

You'll be needing an 80cm x 40cm piece of fabric, x2 50cm cord/ribbon (this will be your straps), and a sewing machine.

Steps:

1. Fold your fabric in half with the face sides together and pin the edges together. Stitch the sides together at 1,5cm.

2. Fold the corners of the bag. Draw a line about 3cm from the tip of the corner (this will be your sewing guideline). Sew along the line.

3. Turn the bag right side out and mark where you want the straps to be (I marked mine 9cm away from the seam). Mark the middle of your straps and pin it to the corresponding marks that you made on the bag. Be sure to pin the straps upside down (as seen below). Sew the straps to the bag (make sure to reinforce the edges of the straps to the bag).

4. Fold and pin the edge of the bag where you added the straps to finish off the edge of the bag. Sew the "hem" of the bag and you're all done.
